Summer Early???

With the early summer heat (85 degrees in March!) already hitting us, the little kids got creative and filled up an empty sandbox with water.

It made for a fun afternoon!

Butterflies Field Trip

We recently took an awesome field trip to BRIT (Botanical Research Institute of Texas) with our homeschool group. Although these pictures are not the best quality, we had a great time, and hopefully some of these pictures show that. Ellie, Caden, and Stella were all fascinated at huge butterflies that would come right up in front of your face at the convservatory.

This was the only time I could get them all to sit down at the same time. There was a waterfall in front of them, and that held Ellie's and Caden's attention while I snapped a quick picture.

We were told not to touch the butterflies at all for any reason, and even Stella obeyed the rule as you can see in these pictures - she never even tried to touch them but was very interested in watching them. She is a little afraid of bugs at this point and will reach out for a june bug only to pull her hand back quickly and say, "no!"

It's a little difficult to see, but there is a large butterfly next to Caden's head on a plant. His favorite part of the field trip was the conservatory, although the classroom activities were fun as well.

In this last picture, someone is getting kind of cranky and sleepy, but she loved all the bright colorful flowers and wanted to touch them.

It was a great time, and the little kids are already asking to go back! I wish I had been able to get more pictures of Ellie, but most of the time she was running around with her homeschool buddies and away from the camera. At one point, a butterfly landed on her head and another mom took a picture, so hopefully I'll be able to add that one once it's sent to me.
