Chickens

We have decided to raise chickens and have finally put them outside in their "new" (recycled swing set) chicken coop.  I'm so proud of Michael's ingenuity in putting this together!  It is a coop with nesting boxes attached to a run so they can stay "cooped" up in the run if need be with the option to roam freely around the yard if it is a good time for them to be out.  Here are a couple of pics of the process from beginning to end:

and look how the chicks have grown!

about 2 weeks old

now at 9 weeks in their run

It will still be awhile before they lay eggs, but they are great entertainment for the kids and are their beloved pets already.

One of their favorite things to do is feed the chickens fresh kale.  The chickens absolutely love it!

It's kind of like a playhouse

Hopefully we will have eggs soon...we'll keep you posted!

That is the cleverest coop I've ever seen. They have a first-class roost! It will be so fun for the kids to gather fresh eggs - very cool.
